B&H Alternative

That is too funny. I've heard the same "attitude" over the phone from B&H. I've always thought it was a NYC thing. My web host is there also and are the same way. They talk to me like I'm stupid. I don't think it is intentionally rude though, just a different part of the country I guess.

we,re packed too close together....

if you had someone in your face for 8 hours aday... you,d get impatient too.

well there is that famous cartoon from the New Yorker I think, where I New York guy is shown on a street corner in the left panel and an L.A. guy is shown a ona street corner in the right panel and:

NEW YORK GUY SAYS : F@CK YOU
HIS THOUGHT BUBBLE READS : HAVE A NICE DAY

L.A. GUY SAYS: HAVE A NICE DAY
HIS THOUGHT BUBBLE READS: F@CK YOU

lol

Repeat for 8 hours with two 15minute breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch.

Those jobs can be really de-humanizing.

If it bums you out, and there's any way you can survive -- get out -- if it makes you be short with people as a matter of course, then its crushing your soul.

Easy words of the idealist I know, and there's nothing worse than being completly broke ... that's why I "if you can".

I must say I had a nice time at B&H when I finally got back there. Got a guy who was really helpful and hauled ass on my behalf.

Abel Cine Tech was great but they of course are so much more specialized.

B&H as a NYC walk-in is unbeatable. But they should hand out stress pills at the door along with the breath mints!

I had an episode there on Sunday. I hate them poo pooers over there. They act like ytou bothering them and they treat you as such. poo poo them.

I'm still going to shop there though.. LMAO!

lol, they are so bottom line oriented that if you showed them that their productivity would not decrease while their sales would actually increase due to a more pleasant experience -- I'm sure they's have no problem passing out some sort of mood enhancer to their staff at the beginning of each shift, lol.

good days and bad days, we got 'em

good days and bad days, we got 'em

never had any problems with B&H guys. ever.

maybe I just got lucky the 3-4 times I've been there, they're actually too talkative and asking ME too many questions about the projects I'm working on and what I'm gonna use such and such for. Hmm, just lucky I guess. but I'm always wearing Flint Michigan t-shirts and buying everyday film stuff so maybe they think I work for Michael Moore. yah, that's it.

typically you have about 5 minutes of fame with any one salesperson on busy days, then you gotta move on to the next guy, or come back another time.

it's like Jack said, it's repetition and you are a faceless drone customer; we're talking 34th street here, and they probably get a lot of tourists buying tourist crap.

Speaking of which, I mess with tourists on the street all the time. It is a source of personal amusement for all New Yorkers. Take this transaction for instance:

"What? What? Sure, sure, I'll help you with directions, it's 6:03PM, I'm not tired from commuting three trains and a bus and want to go home. No! What's that? You can't understand any of these damn Mexicans around here? Sorry to hear that, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Perkins from Dayton, USA. What? You want to go to the World Trade Center to buy some programs and trinkets just to say you been there? How respectful. No problem. Let's see. We're at 34th Street. That there is the Empire State Building! (takes picture). Now, what you want to do is get on the number 2 train right there, and take it all the way up to 149th Street Grand Concourse, and tell them you are not from around here and are looking for some help. You won't see the twin towers, because as you know, there were knocked down. But just ask around for where you can find "two big ones", and they'll hook you right up. Have a nice (freakin') day."

I agree they have a lot, but can't you get stuff a tad cheaper from smaller stores?

Anyone want to list alternatives to paying 6k flat @ B&H for their HVX?
