Did a search for this Mic and couldn't find anything here.

As a general purpose run and gun docu type shot gun mic for 152$ what do you all think?

(I know I should spend more on sound, so forgive me for the moment on this budgetary screw up)

Piece of crap. Plain and simple.

Read the stickies - there are some good options in all budget ranges listed there.

that's what i thought. i've used this mic before on a low budget shoot and to be honest it had a much better sound to it than i had expected. With good mic placement you can get pretty decent audio from it. The only real downfall for it is that you can't run it on phantom power. I'd say it's a good starter shotgun.

Thanks SMP. I understand it is not the holy grail of mics, but that is my budget and that is that. I think it will do. I got in touch with someone today who did a similar project as me and got a theatrical release who used a much lower grade mic. I am not looking for theatrical quality (or theatrical release) whatsoever, but it is nice to know that a mediocre mic is not a death sentence.

Phil-
Thanks for your honesty (however brutal). I have read the stickies. I was hoping I was getting something above the 100$ package and below the 300$ package. Either way it is purchased now, so I have to live with what I got and what my budget gave me. Maybe you can help me get the best possible sound out of my crappy Mic?:cheesy: I always love tips.

Thanks

my tips would be to have good mic placement, put it on a boom and get it as close as possible. It's not a great indoor mic at all so if you are shooting indoors, do what you can to shoot in quiet spaces (turn off the heat/air) sound will also bounce off walls which will give off a little echo....try not to shoot in a huge room where sound is gonna go all over the place. And have some extra batteries for the mic since it's all that will power it.
