Azden SGM-X1 simply died!

it's been a few months since I've used my shotgun. last weekend, I poped in new battery and attempted to use it. It simply doesn't work. When I turn it mic on, I see a burst of peak in the audio meter and then it was flatline. How does a mic simply die? >:( It was stored in my pelican with plenty of padding around. Any ideas?

Azden doesn't have a great reputation, but it's really unusual for a mic to just plain die, sitting in a well protected case. Have you tried some other batteries? I recently got a batch of bad Duracells and they acted really weird--full charge initially, then rapid complete death. Also, try cleaning the battery contacts in your mic--it could be some oxidation on the contacts.
