I heard here before that the Azden mics aren't that good. The thing is that I was offered the Azden SGM-1X for a really good price. Would I be totally wasting my money if I was to get this to use with my H4n?
It's a decent mic for what it is. I use it as more of a crash mic. Rainy crappy weather, So I can get decent audio without destroying a good mic. It's built well, it has a more hollow sound than say a rode nt2. But it's certainly better than any onboard mic Ive heard. I would say if you can get it cheap, buy it. And use til you can afford a better mic.
What's the "really good price"? If you are just a student or making advanced home movies I'd say maybe. But if you plan on growing in the audio for video area you may as well go for a Rode NTG-2 as a nice starter shotgun.
