Axis Dolly Review

I have searched the forums here (and on other sites) and I have yet to find a real world review of an Axis Dolly.

I was looking to get one but I wanted to see if there was any feedback on the performance/value of this product.

Specifically, any footage or feedback about how the dolly performs on various surfaces (concrete, hardwood, pvc track) will help.

I will probably end up buying one but I thought it might be useful to have a thread here for future reference.

So this is sort of troubling. I was under the impression that the Axis Dolly was in widespread use and someone would chime in with a rave review or example of a great shot.

Basically I am left with buying the 'concept' of the Axis Dolly. I wish I could rent it or hear from others that it works as promised. The only video I have seen is on the Axis site and it is only a few very low rez clips that are not really optimal.

Here's hoping someone chimes in.... My other choice at the moment is the Indie Dolly, but I would love to have a 'trackless' option when I need it.

Check out the Indie Snap! dolly with the Flex Track. The large version isn't listed on their website yet but it's basically a tracked version of the Axis Dolly. I should be getting the large Flex Track to test in a few days and I'll post my review then.

I was considering the Indie Dolly as well for its configurable track but the $1100 price tag not including track turned me away.

Wow. How did I miss that one?

Looks cool. And the prices look hard to beat.

I do still like the idea of a trackless system and being able to dial in a 'perfect' arc (to keep focus). I have visions of doing a 360 degree arc 'freestyle'.

Flex track with a lightweight kit, at that price is definitely worth considering.

Thanks so much. I look forward to your review. Any idea on price for the full sized?

I believe Todd from Indie Snap! planned to use the dolly from the Curve Track kit and simply discontinue the aluminum track. If it's the same price then about $400.

Without hijacking this thread, can someone recomend a descent dolly + track kit for about $500. I know it's not much but I do mostly nature photography and narrative work so I need something easy to set up and light enough for me to haul around since I'm a one man crew. All input is appreciated!

The IndieSnap mentioned a few posts up is in that range...

Oynk,

Yea... the site needs some new videos. Totally agree, and we are producing a DVD that shows how to use the dolly and examples of shots if full res. Also, we are putting together a user area with links to customers (who want to be on the page) and examples of videos they've made using the Axis Dolly. I'm sorry it isn't up yet, but we are still collecting footage.

I do let people demo the Axis Dolly, and I'd be happy to extend the offer to you. Contact me for details.

hey seth

thanks. i may take you up on that demo.

it sounds like you are working to provide more user feedback which is great for an independently made product like yours. believe me, i have spent a lot of searching for anything I could find.

i look forward to seeing the footage !

I bought the curve track kit initially but Todd decided to redesign the aluminum track so he offered to let me try out the Flex Track at the same price. I have the dolly unit in hand already, just waiting for the track.

i've been looking at going with the Indie Snap. have you received your track yet? is it this one? http://www.indiesnap.com/flexfull.html

do you have any footage to show how smooth it is?

thanx in advance
