Awesome Making of The Empire Strikes Back documentary.

Some people are just very uncomfortable being themselves for an audience (in interviews, etc.). They're OK being themselves around other people in the context of just interacting with those people, but when doing something for a live audience or a camera, they are only comfortable being in a character, instead of being themselves.

That kicked ass. I may have to watch Empire today... I got goosebumps twice.

Man... it's hard to say something is breathtaking for a full 20 minutes or whatever that was... but... it WAS. What really struck me is that yeah... while some effects show their age, it's not nearly to the extent that you'd expect for Empire's actual age. More importantly... it's the STORY... the WORLD they created... something to get lost in.

It's crazy seeing all the BTS dudes working away on this (virtually) timeless film... all in their clothes, beards, and hairstyles that instantly reveal the real period in time. Seeing all those devoted artists working towards a singular goal so effectively is just mind blowing.

It's no wonder Star Wars has basically changed the world.

I think what makes it so awesome is the perfect combination of HUGE props built on the set with great matte paintings, etc. The real sets give the actors something to work with and hold onto, while the set extensions make them look fantastic and sci fi. I like this much better than Avatar. Jurassic park also worked so well because there was great CGI, plus great real life puppets for the actors and director to work with.
