What make one an award winning director? A friend of mine says if you win best director for your short film at any high end or low end film festival than you are considered an award winning director.

What is your thoughts on this?

Technically yes, however its easy to abuse. Pet peev of mine is when people over use it and basically everything they write there name on they write award winning director after.

IMHO, this is legit if you won an award for a feature, and bigger or more prestigious film fest the better--Sundance, Tribeca, etc. Of course with a jury prize at one of these your career would at least hit low-earth orbit.

Just my 2 cents
