Avoid Vivitar Binocular Camera!

Okay, I know it's highly unlikely that any of you were even considering buying such a thing. Still, somebody might be thinking of it as a gift for a child. Don't do it!

My dear Mother bought 3 of these Vivitar combination binocular and digital camera thingies. She gave me one for my birthday, was planning to give the 2nd to my brother for his birthday, and was going to keep the 3rd for herself.

Unit #1 was broken. The battery compartment cover didn't fit right, which didn't much matter because the camera part didn't work anyway. It was also missing the instruction booklet and the lens cloth that was supposed to come with it.

Unit #2 worked -- meaning it powered on and seemed to function -- but was missing the instruction booklet.

Unit #3 was missing the USB cable to connect the 'camera' to the PC.

So I stole the instruction booklet from Unit #3, and had one complete set of everything that was supposed to come with one of these things. Everything seemed to work fine -- until I downloaded the pics I took onto my computer. What I got was a horrible, pixelated mess that could barely be discerned as being roughly similar to what I was trying to take a picture of.

From reading the experiences of others online, I quickly learned mine was a common complaint. So all three of these pieces of garbage are going back to the store from whence they came.

Happy birthday to me. :(
