AviSynth

Hello everyone,

I lurk this forum for quite some time already,
but after getting a 7d now, I felt the urge to finally register...
Really a lot useful info around here, a great forum, thumbs up guys!

But there is one thing that baffles me:

It seems theres nearly no one around here using AviSynth for post-processing, right!?
Is there a special reason for this? I work with video for some time already (~10y)
and in my opinion AviSynth is one of the most useful tool for filtering videos.
It's possibilitys are almost endless as you can write/scrip your own filters,
also there are dozens and dozens of plugins for it,
and, best is, its all for free...

Regards,
Soul

You wouldn't happen to be SoulHunter of Doom9, would you? I'm a daily AVISynth user myself.

The pro video world is unfortunately not too accustomed to more "dirty" solutions like those of AVISynth. If it doesn't have a brand name, a mark up of 300%, and rave reviews, it simply won't get used.

I use AVS at work to feed all my final edits into x264; due to the oudated Pentium D here at work, I don't bother much with filtering (since I usually downscale to 320x240 anyway for our web stuff, though I maintain higher resolution masters for Youtube uploading).

At home is another story entirely. I've accidentally shot short film segments in 60i, necessitating a 24p conversion (thank you, MVTools!), which, while not looking quite as good, is a lot better than leaving it at 60i... I routinely use it for DVD and Blu-ray ripping as well.

Was it you and I (among others) who discussed how to create F**kItUp()?.... Censoring it myself seems better than the forum's filter!

Yeah, this filter to simulate artifacts and other image imperfections... Back then, it was just a idea for a "fun filter", but now I think it would be a mighty tool for developing and testing counter filters, eh? Currently I work on a overhaul of my website, the "3h in Editor.exe" version no more does it. I wanna add much new content like a image artifact overview (So far it contains: Interlaceing, Aliasing / Jaggies / Pixelation, Gibbs / Mosquito-noise, Banding / Posterization, Dot crawl, Halos, Ringing, Blocking, Rainbowing, Chroma bleeding, Chroma subsampling, Chroma shift, Blur, Noise, Grain, Dirt, and Frame corruptions... Suggestions for more?) and also lots of other stuff. Maybe, some day, when I'm really bored, I'll finally write this filter... ^^;
