Did anyone catch the the podcast with the die-hard Final Cut Pro and Avid editors comparing the two? It was very interesting. I think their both great. I tend to get to do more projects I consider fun with Final Cut Pro though. From what I've seen, true innovation seems to rest in the hands of the user and not so much the wares anyway.

So... What are the benefits of Avid over FCP? I'm enjoying my learning experience with FCP (all 63 minutes of it, thanks kids!), but am always open to new software.

The Apple codec retains the original sharpness so that you can run it through the same codec multiple times without quality loss. The downside is it doesn't look quite as smooth but of course if that's you're intent you can blur it to taste.
Another to note is the Apple codec handles gamma issues a bit differently than some other DV codecs (brightening on input)
