I am trying to learn AVID... ughh... I get why they designed it like it is, and I see that it will be nice and simple once I get a handle on the basics of it and start cutting(I hope I am not mistaken). However Vegas is so much easier to figure out since it is --as its been said a million and one times-- more intuitive especially for long time Windows users.
However... everyone and their mother out here tells me that AVID is "just gonna be better" even if they barely know how to text with their iPhones which they don't even know why they bought. This makes me wonder that there HAS to be stuff about AVID that is better... the editors they've worked with have always cut in AVID, and they seem to chose not to leave that NLE other than a few daring FCP users. lol
I would like to hear --from fellow Vegas lovers-- just what these advantages that AVID might still posses are. I hope one day my favorite GUI won't be something I'll have to do away with in hopes to score some work as an editor (more work for those of you already established).
So, like I said I JUST started watching a DVD tutorial on Xpress Pro which I recently installed and I want to make a list and hopefully get some detailed explanations about these individually. So please don't flame me if I am wrong on my first possible advantage of Xpress Pro over Vegas 7/8. Also I am not as experienced with Vegas as many of you so there might be things and ways of doing these things in Vegas of which I am not aware of... then this thread will prove just as useful if you guys point these out and I become a better Vegas editor
1. Nesting -- It seems it might be easier to quickly group/nest various clips which are already cut together into a sequence, with or without their audio clips, into one single clip which will it easier and faster to edit said sequence as if it were a rendered sequence and then apply effects to the whole thing... I wish I could give a better explanation but so long as you guys understand the general area which I thin AVID might have an advantage over Vegas then you guys can confirm or otherwise... I might just not know the faster and better way in Vegas if there is an other than the one I know which is to drop a project file in the timeline... I never really tried to drop multiple project files on the same timeline but I think I was not allowed a while back when I tried to do so.
If I think I notice other stuff I will post them as a separate point. I hope Vegas users with AVID experience (or AVID people with Vegas exposure) will comment and confirm if this is true... hopefully give a bit more detail as to what might be easier and/or faster...
Of course I would LOVE to hear the advantages that Vegas has on AVID so I can rub those in the faces of skeptics
