Despite Avid's re-assurances about on-going support, the good working
relationship between Apple and Euphonix took a sudden turn South
after this announcement I would imagine.

On the positive side, the Avid Media Composer crowd will (eventually)
get a very decent control surface family for transport and
color grading.

But, I suspect we've seen the apex of Euphonix integration with Final Cut Pro /
Color.

I'm an Avid guy but I have always liked those controllers, now I'll have to get one for my Media Composer 5 upgrade!

Knowing how Avid is becoming more compatible with pro res I'd suspect they will still sell them to the FCP guys in the future, I mean come on, they will lose a LOT of money if they don't, FCP is a huge market. I'm sure Avid will also make them work for Protools.

I dissagree. Avid dropped support for the Cinewave after they purchased Pinnacle Systems. The Cinewave and Targa 3000 war the samething more or less. They also stopped support for Premiere on the Targa 3000 side. They did manage to migrate the Avid Liquid Chrome to the Targa 3000 systems.

Competition is tough my friend.

Man, them are some old days.

Euphonix depends on developers to implement the Eucon protocol used by their controllers. In the case of the MC Color, Apple had to add support for the protocol into Color. Without this integration, the MC Color loses a lot of it's appeal. So in that respect, Apple (like other developers who implement Eucon) has a lot of power in the relationship.
