AVI rendering setting?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I'm using a 24P timeline with dvx footage on it. All is well.

If I want to render it out as an NTSC DV AVI file, I see three choices as templates. 1. inserting 2332 pulldown 2. inserting the "other pulldown" and 3. a standard NTSC (without inserting pulldown.

Question: When I choose number 3, does Vegas automatically insert some pulldown, even though it doesn't say so? The renders all look the same to me when I see the finished product.

Re: AVI rendering setting?

No. Pulldown is inserted for the purpose of removal later. If no pulldown is inserted, you won't be able to extract the 24p frames later.

You shouldn't see much of a difference in "look" between them.

Re: AVI rendering setting?

Clarification: yes, it is inserting 2:3 pulldown. An NTSC file is required to be 60i. So Vegas stretches the 24P frames across 60 fields, duplicating 2 fields per four frames in a 2:3 pattern in order to get to 60i. It's the same pattern as you'd get with DV 24P (inserting 2:3), but the difference (as David pointed out) is that you can't re-extract the original 24P frames.

Well, I guess with Vegas 5 you can, but with Vegas 4 you couldn't.
