AVI problems in Vegas

I downloaded a concert in avi format off the internet, and I wanted to import it into Vegas, export it as an mpeg, and then burn it to DVD. The problem I'm having is that though it plays fine (video and audio both) in Windows Media Player, whenever I try to open it in the Vegas trimmer, only the audio portion shows up, and it doesn't even show up all the way. It begins to build peaks, but locks up before it builds anything. Any ideas on what's going on?

I appreciate any help.

It's probably a DivX. Vegas does not support DivX files natively. You can trick it into using it -- I've done it -- but I don't remember exactly how. Let me try it and see.

That sounds right

That sounds right

I think you're right David. That would make perfect sense. Yeah, if you can remember how to trick it, I'd appreciate the help. If nothing else, would I still be able to make a VCD with it?

Well, here's what I had to do (reconstructing notes from about 10 months ago):

As long as you have the DivX codec installed, you should be able to drop the clip onto the timeline. What will happen is that the audio portion will be about 2 - 2.5 times longer than the video portion -- but the video portion will be right.

Well, I took the AVI into Windows Movie Maker and output a Windows Media file and used the audio from that. Lined up perfectly when I dropped it on the timeline with the DivX file.

Then, I was able to render an MPEG for DVD, no problem.

I just tried it again, and it worked.

I don't know that much about DivX, though, so I don't know if there was something special about the particular file.

Thanks

Thanks

Yes, thank you very much David. I haven't gotten a chance to mess with it more yet, but hopefully that will work. Thanks for taking the time.
