I'm expecting some footage that will be in .AVI format. I've never worked with this format, is this something that FCP for a MAC can read and import correctly? If not any recommendations what to do with .AVI footage? I know my quicktime could never read .AVI (unless i need to download a codec or something).

Please let me know if you have dealt with .AVI files in Final Cut Pro for MAC!

Thanks dudes

AVI like QT are containerformats that can decode the installed codecs. One can add and take away a ton of them. This is in other words not a a simply answered question.

BUT in most cases you could transcode the avi with something like mpeg-streamclip to a corrresponding quicktime codec.

Yup- highly depends on what codec. You might want to get tapes rather than AVIs. Also flip4mac could come in handy.

Episode is col, too - but we're drifting off; I guess.

MPEG streamclip is actually a mean little app, and it's free
