avi files and frame problem in Sony Vegas

So,I have some trouble importing avi files in SV7.When i import them only the sound comes up.Actually most of my .avi files work fine.Only a few of them don't.And those are in h264.Are there any codecs i should install to solve this?

Also, when i import large files, when i click somewhere on the timeline, it takes A LOT of time for that frame to show up in the preview and meanwhile under the preview where it says "frame" it has this "......" thing .It's like for example "Frame : 2.345.....".
It feels like it's searching for the frame or something. But is there a way to fix this?

Do a Google search for ffdshow and try and find the latest version (the one on Sourceforge is long out of date). Then after you install it, go into it's VFW settings and activate all the available codecs (except perhaps DV). That should let you drag just about anything in to Vegas.

Need much, much more information. An AVI file can be just about anything.

wow didn't know that such a thing existed..Thanx man

Hey sns2015..iv done a search but none of them seem to work..this is the one that looked like the latest one ffdshow-rev2844_20090330_xxl

What codec is in the AVI file then? You may have to use VirtualDub to convert it to another codec. ffdshow generally can take care of it, but there are some codecs that not even it can decode.
