avi file w/no video

Hello Y'all

I have an .avi video file that I recorded with my digital camera (read: not my dvx, just w/a plain ol canon powersht sd600)...I figure the video should display in vegas as it displays w/no prob. in windows media player and real player...right? I read somewhere here that i should uncheck 'ignore 3rd party codecs', which i did...but to no avail...I uploaded the vido with the usb cable that came w/the camera....I didn't capture the video straight to vegas, but I don't think I have to, right? I did use the 'import' function....why is this so difficult?

I do appreciate your help.

Trevor

//also - did i mention that the audio plays, just not the video on this clip?? hmmm...

"AVI" is just a wrapper. The codec could be anything, unfortunately.

There are similar threads in here on the subject. I can't remember what to do for this, but the answers are in here somewhere.

The ".sfk" files are just Vegas' audio graphics (the waveforms on the timeline), not any kind of audio or video file.

If you don't see another file (probably something.avi) then you've lost the captured file somehow.

thanks again (!), but alas, no luck yet...my search continues...most likely i'll need to download some sort of plug-in....?

yeah the sfk file is something that represents the audio form of your video. You mustve got some stray sfk file. On the other hand if a proper video file doesnt play within vegas its most likely a codec problem. Most delivery formats and codecs are not designed to work within an NLE. Most NLEs will expect you to import only production type of files. Sometimes even a .wmv file that was produced by vegas itself wont load onto the timeline or will playback stuttering.

wow. that solved the issue. i dowloaded the program you directed me to, realized i didn't have the mjpeg codec & d/l'd the morgan multimedia codec from
cnet & wha-la...after i restarted my computer...again, GenJerDan, your help is invaluable...let me know if a donation is in line, i'd be more than happy.

I'm always having little issues, so I'll have more little questions in the near future, I'm sure.

Thanks!

All you gotta do is help someone else when they have a question and you know the answer. :)

(Note: I didn't know the answer here. I just pointed to a possible way of finding out the answer.)

yes, once i have a better grasp on what i am doing, i'd be more than happy to share. users such as yourself help to provide a positive sense of community. thanks once again.
