averted disaster!!

These types of clips are mind boggling, I can't imagine what is running through their heads on the flight deck. If you have any others please post

PS...I know this clip will be upstaged when Rich Lee posts a clip of a house cat landing a cesna or something. ;D

Re: averted disaster!!

Since you mentioned the infamous Mr. Lee, I watched this clip with the sound off... I was sure a Zombie was going to scare the bejeezus out of me! :o

Re: averted disaster!!

I know what you mean. It seems like every random clip posted on this site in the last few months has some kind of zombie that pops out!

Re: averted disaster!!

That' a good one Rich...just one more thing cat's almost do well :D

Re: averted disaster!!

Yeh...the aproach angle is all wrong, unless you were talking about rich's 737, I thought that looked kind of doctored. On second viewing though I think it looks weird cos it's not something you see every day.

Re: averted disaster!!

I think that's produced by the focal length of the zoom lens. If you look at the grass patch on the left you can see it's clearly not hovering. Anoyher point to consider is that in extreme crosswind, forward airspeed may be compromised but not at the expense of lift.

Re: averted disaster!!

Well, that's possible, but look at the shadow -- it stays in the same spot for a good two seconds at the end of the runway.

Re: averted disaster!!

I was in an L-1011 that hit the runway very hard and the screams were un nerving. The wailing and screaming in that 747 is something I'm glad I never had to hear.

Re: averted disaster!!

Last time I flew, we landed at about twice normal speed. I didn't think we were ever going to stop.

Re: averted disaster!!

No doubt.

Although, that was the same flight were we had about 40 uniformed members of the Big Red One (Army). I was thinking, yeah, let's see someone try and hijack this plane!

Re: averted disaster!!

No hijack there...they'd just have to pull the pin a la suicide bombing

Re: averted disaster!!

I thought it was ironic. I haven't felt safer on a plane since 9/11, and there we were, barrelling to a fiery death . . . on the ground!

Y'know...that name always bothered me. Never could manage to stress each syllable equally.

It always came out Big Red One.

Which doesn't sound like something you'd want to tell anyone you had.

Re: averted disaster!!

hehe...red rocket...

a friends wife survived a plane crash in the 80's. i believe what happened was the plane had no landing gear, so they had to take it down on the belly...it was a big passenger jet too...i will have to ask them again for more details...lucky the worst that happened were some broken bones.
