hey i have been usually mixing my audio to peak at just above -12db (i.e. having -12db correspond to 0 on the analogue scale). anyway my work has been largely liited to DVD's and recently i was approcahed to do a commercial for a local retail outlet. i was just wondering if the levels were similiar for broadcast? i assume so, but i guess you can never be sure. anythign else i should watch out for? thanks!

For TV, a common tech spec is -20dbfs for average level and peaks no higher than -10dbfs. Some have an even more compressed dynamic range and will look for something like -20 for average and -16 for peaks. DVD tends to be mixed with an average level for dialogue at around -27dbfs. Standards can vary, and it's always a good idea to check with your broadcaster to see what the specs are.
