Is that what he bought? Attach to a c/stand and use it to hold things out in the horizontal direction. Bring lights, flags, whatever over the set without the stand being in the way. Probably plenty of other uses for it too, just a good tool to have in the bag of tricks.

Aside from holding reflectors... Holding any light fabric that you could shoot through or use as a flag. Holding cue cards... I dunno. Just always remember you have it.
