AVCHD to MOV converter versus JVC HM100

I know the HM100 allows for AVCHD to be recorded in a .Mov format, but I also know that .Mov format is recognized as XDCam. What about using a software converter that converts to an HD Quicktime. There's several I've found that look interesting:

AVCHD to MOV Converter is the converter I've been reading about.

iorgsoft's AVCHD Converter for Mac.

and ofcourse Shedworx which converts to AIC or Prores and ClipWrap which wraps and also transcodes. I also get the idea that if I wrap the file then transcode it, that would be quicker than simply transcoding. Does any of this make sense?

I'm lead to believe converting to .mov is quicker than transcoding. I may be wrong or it may all be the same thing. I'm thinking I may end up cutting on a G5 on FCE so I don't know how things may turn out.

If I had an HM100 I wouldn't have to convert. But an HM100 cost $3000 but uses it's own versus of the .Mov format for quick editing. So what do you guys think?
