AVCHD (TC) date > ProRes?

I am wondering if there is a way to transfer the date a clip was created from the ACHD file to the transcoded ProRes422 file. When I log and transfer the footage in FCP the data the footage was created appears to get lost and I have to sort the transcoded clips by Timecode to get a chronological ordered list of the footage but I still don't know what day it was shot, just that one clip was shot after another! Very annoying.

I see there is some crappy Panasonic software that came with the camera, AVCHD viewer, a complete joke and it supposedly let's me manipulate meta data?

Well, the creation date is not getting lost at all. The original AVCHD file has a creation date for that data file. The ProRes file has a creation date for that data file. They were not created on the same date, so they won't have the same creation date. FCP 7 does not show the TOD timecode in the Browser, which really sucks, as it'd be great to see, and that's the metadata you want.

The Panny software won't help, because you're creating a new ProRes file, on a different date than the original footage was shot.

Thus, if that information is important, I'd have put that into the file name. The Log & Transfer window allows you to create custom naming presets, one available field is "Clip Date/Time".

As for now, you do have to go back and add it some how manually, as the "creation date" is the date the "data file" was created, not the date the footage was actually shot. Although the two can be the same, they're not linked in any way.

For all 100 clips???!!

Simply copy the date as a string, double click on the clips prior to adding them to the batch and paste in there. It really doesn't take that long - we often add stuff like this to 500+ files.

HOWEVER, you could setup a custom name that includes the time/date an then it would be added automatically.
