AVCHD playback so badly on Mac

I bought CS4 and realized that AVCHD couldn't be smoother on playback. I have macbook pro that could edit P2 clips nicely than AVCHD clips from the same laptop. Is anyone experienced the same problem?

I looked up on Canopus for Edius which I already have it too. Someone said that it wont be good for playback on Edius 5, too. I want to avoid the conversion from AVCHD to different format.

Vasst AVCHD Upshift appeared to be very good to keep the file size lower by control the quality in mbps. 17mbps wont be smooth on MBP but reduced under 15mbps will be a bit smoother. I bought Canon HF11 to use it instead HVX200 for some projects. I hope anyone could share here about AVCHD/CS4 experiences on Mac!

Are you talking about the stuttering playback? I downloaded the demo and found the same thing. I've heard Adobe is aware of the issue, but hasn't caught up with the AVCHD format yet. I am using imovie until I can get Final Cut Pro for my hf11 videos.

I don't edit on a Mac, but I do use CS4. As for AVCHD, PPro edits it natively, which means that you've got to have a very powerful computer to get smooth playback. AVCHD is a beast to edit - unless it's transcoded to another codec, it requires a lot more computing power then P2 or HDV.

One thing you could do is adjust the preview/program monitor settings to auto or draft mode, and that should provide smoother playback, but the image quality won't look as good. Don't worry though, when you make the final DVD (or whatever format you final to), the video will look great - the quality setting only affects the preview, not final output.

I think that a Quad core CPU (Core 2 Quad Q9550) and more than 4GB+ RAM outta cover it. My systems got 4GB RAM and AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ CPU. (I know it's a while old) When I get the chance to upgrade the system, I will.

I only recommended more RAM because all these High Definition formats inc RAW HD video formats are really difficult to process on systems with low RAM without massive slowdowns and a quad core processor that can keep up.

Feel free to check and tell me if I'm wrong cus that's the info I got the last time I checked (quite a while ago) but technology always keeps advancing

If using Premiere Pro, it's always best to get more RAM:)
