AVCHD "Lite" / PremPro CS4 /(CPU & Vid Cards a problem?) - Need Advice

I've used AVCHD "Lite" footage shot with my LX5 off and on in PProCS4 with mostly "good success". By that I mean it will play fine for most part in sequences with 720p30 setting. On my CPU3 it will play fine in both source/program monitors. On CPU2 it shows constant "artifact blocks" throughout playback in source monitor, but fine in program monitor. I have a new CPU 1 - and these clips show constant artifact blocking in both source and program monitors. It does seem to export fine...but I'm not really interesting in looking at poor quality clips while editing etc..

I've heard mixed feedback about using Ppro CS4 with 64 bit, and also some mixed feedback about the ATI HD 5770 card in particular...without going into details...some commentators prefer seem to prefer Nvidia generally for video editing if they had a choice between the two.

Any thoughts/comments/advice on this would be appreciated. I would put myself in the moderately knowledgeable catagory on these topics...I'm not a "super gear freak"

Thanks David...also some of the comments I read from users who prefered Nvidia for video ed. talked about Nvidia's CUDA...is this aspect of it's design something you know about. Also, curious what Nvidia card(s) are you using? I'm thinking about getting nVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or similar has to work with my 525 w. PSU.

CUDA doesn't matter (as such) for CS4, but it's a big deal for CS5 -- it accelerates the Mercury Playback Engine, which is superb.

However, CS4 does still leverage the graphics card and works better with Nvidia.

I just ordered the EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE, although a poster said the PremPro (CS5) didn't officially recognize this card...it still worked fine for them. I can't imagine there being an issue with CS4 aside from the MPE issue you mentioned
