avchd file size ratio

Hi,

I am wondering what the ratio is from AVCHD to ProRes 422.
Something like:
X gb AVCHD = X gb of ProRes 422

Does anyone know of a guide for these conversions?
I'm trying to figure out how much space I need to transcode all of my AVCHD footage.

Thanks

It doesn't work like that I'm afraid. It's actually not hard to calculate though. Simply use your time to calculate the destination size. Of course, this depends on your resolution and particular level of ProRes you're using (I'll assume 1080p/24 with standard ProRes 422, which is 117Mbps)

http://documentation.apple.com/en/f...ws/index.html#chapter=10&section=4&tasks=true Use this chart.

So, excluding the audio track, this would be 60sec. (1min) x 117Mbps = 7020 megabits. This is equal to 877.5 megabytes for one minute of footage. Since you now know the time, and since ProRes uses a constant datarate, you can roughly assume that every minute is 877.5MB. If you have a 60 minute video, your footage would expand to about 52,650MB, which is equal to 51.4GB.
