Avatar: The Way of Water

Trailer just dropped and I dunno, after 13 years I'd expect the CGI to be more impressive. This looks only marginally better than the first film, and still hasn't traversed the uncanny valley. Not that it looks bad mind you, I was just hoping for more photorealism. If the story is good that won't matter much. Cameron farmed out the scripts to other writers this time, which is interesting.

Looks craptacular.

The story can't possibly be worse than the original

The 4K Imax trailer, seen on a 4k display, looks more impressive. You can see the improvements in detail more clearly.

I have a hard time being impressed by VFX shots that are so clearly all CGI... they just always look unnaturally sharp / in focus. I'm still way more impressed when they can pull off seamless transitions & blends of real people / sets with CGI.
