Artful Dodger
Just spoke with the Sup. Art Dir. on Avatar; the figures worked out and (after hurdling the UPM) I'll start Tuesday or Wednesday.

That's great news man. Congratulations.

p.s. How did you get your start in Art and Set Design?

I had been working as a VFX model maker, and a set designer/art director friend asked if I'd like to get into the art department*. He squired me around town and introduced me to a bunch of production designers, and Dante Ferretti hired me onto a show at Carolco.

Thanks, everybody. I haven't looked forward to starting a show this much, in quite a while.

*Art departments are usually air-conditioned and relatively free of gene-lethal toxic chemical crapola, so I said 'yes.'

Dude.... can i move to warm California.... and can you hire me? i hate NY its cold here.

hehe thanks tommy. Im itching for a reason to go to cali for a couple months. But just when you think you can get out..... NY Pulls you back in...... Threadjack over.

Congrats Karl. We still need to do an art department interview for www.2nd-unit.tv Hint! Hint ! Nudge! Nudge! The whole team that it takes to do a show!
Scott

Thanks!

Alas the whole crew is crazy-busy from top to bottom, and security is tighter than a drum (the first thing you see walking into the Playa facility, is a huge red-and-black sign promising dire consequences if you so much as snap a photograph, and for the first time in my career I have been issued a photo ID with moving parts...)

There are some designers with whom I work often, who are much more laid back about access. Next time I'm working with one of them, I will float having you come in. Most of them are publicity-hounds who will probably be eager to accommodate you.

Sad - that's just amazing for you, congrats. Now, do you think you can change your user name to Bad Ass Max?
