AV->DV Problem - Any help much appreciated

Hey all, i'm running some home-shot DVD footage from my DVD player into my camera, then into FCP through a firewire. I've actually done this procedure a dozen times, but all of a sudden, somewhat inexplicably, I cannot get it work, I have spend probably 4 hours going over every possible step, and am simply stumped. I would really appreciate any help I can get, I am working on a project that needs to be done asap! :'<

As follows:

1) S-Video yellow/red/white cord connected from DVD player to Camera.
2) Camera turned onto VCR Mode, and AV->DV mode turned to ON.
3) DVD Player playing, and instead of seeing on my viewfinder what I would be seeing on my TV Screen, I see the generic BLUE screen of VCR Mode. Simply no signal is getting picked up.

Again, I have done this soo many times without any problems, and I just cant understand what has happened. I have also tried 2 different DVD players and 2 different S-Video cables.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much.

Just curious.....is it necessary to have BOTH the s-video cable AND the yellow video cable connected? I would think one or the other, but not both.

thanks so much for your fast reply! I may be mis-labeling the yellow/red/white cord as "S-Video'. That cord is the only one I have connected. Sorry to be confusing!

Wish I had a suggestion for you. I've never tried to do what you're doing, but you say it worked before. I assume it's the same camera, same DVD player, etc. I assume the DVD player works fine when connected to a TV using the same cables. It's a puzzler. If I have any epiphanies I'll let you know.

Good luck!

Another thought.....which device are you powering up first? The camera or the DVD player?

Have you tried using some other external source, like a VCR?

I hate to say it, but it's possible the video in/out port on your camera is blown. Can you output from the camera to a VCR?

I assume you're using a DVX100a? Can you get hold of an s-video cable and see if that works?

Are you getting audio input from the DVD?

Just brainstorming here. Hoping something sticks.
