Automatic Zooming in Program Image?

Hello! I'm fairly new on dvxuser, but I have posted a few times in other threads.

I'm also fairly new to Premiere Pro. I had been using Avid and Velocity before and they worked great. Now, with Premiere, I'm finding myself running into an interesting problem.

When I import footage (or directly capture from camera) everything goes great. The footage is added to the bin, I can preview it -- has both sound and video.

However, when I add it to my timeline, two things happen. (1) I have to render. Even if I don't add any effects or transitions the render line automatically turns red. (2) My footage is heavily zoomed in. Not even looking like the framing I originally captured. I checked the settings on the program window and it is set to "fit" so the framing should be what I imported. If I go back to the original media file, it plays just fine.

What the heck is going on? Has this happened to anybody before?

Lol. You're right. I was using the 1080p setting for my interlaced footage!

Is it strange that the choice I have in Premiere for HDV is 25p and not 24p? Will this affect my final product?

You can type in any number. The templates are only for convenience, but can be changed to your needs and saved.

I'm not seeing where I can. Using any 1080 HDV mode for setting up the project will only yield 25 fps or 30fps as the time base. 720p will allow me to choose 23.97 and DVCProHD will allow me to choose 23.97.

Do I have a strange version of PP?

You need to go to Adobe's website and download the 24F preset for the A1. It was released for version 2.0 but will work for CS3

Cool, thanks. So I downloaded the preset and it works fine, but the only preset they have is for 24f,25f,30f...for 1080p, not 1080i. Which brings me back to my original problem with having to render everything I put on the timeline. Weird?

Because those presets are 25fps and not 24 (or 23.97). My footage is recorded in 24f. I was just wondering if there would be anything wrong with my final product if I placed my 24f footage in a 25fps project.

I did a search and I guess that there is no preset for 1080i 24fps. That's cool. I've been using the 1080 50i preset and haven't noticed anything weird, so I'll go with it.

You do know that 24F is progressive footage right? So the preset that Canon have listed on their site is 1080 24F will work.

It doesn't. If I import the footage that I have from my Canon A1 (1080i, 24f HDV footage) and use the preset that Canon has, I have to render my footage every time I put it on the timeline.

It does not work for 1080i 24f for some reason. At least not my version of PP (CS3) with the Canon preset add-on I downloaded from Adobe. The only preset that does not require me to render footage first is the 1080 50i. However, this preset is 25p with no possibility of changing it. I was worried that there would be some problem with doing it that way, but there isn't so...eh.

Whoops. I did a computer restart and now I CAN use my footage in the Canon preset. You were right, Huy. Guess the update needed a reboot. Thanks!
