Automated Slideshow?

What's the quickest and easiest way to get a slideshow laid out on the timeline? I love how iPhoto just makes a slideshow; however, I'd love to have that feature and have everything laid out on the timeline so I could tweak it myself.

Adobe Premiere has a feature like this, where you can set the duration of images, type of fade and it's duration, etc.?

Is there a way to do this in FCP? If so, how?
 
hmmm... so I'm guessing that's a no, and the best way is to simply import a folder of images to the timeline, then add the default transition to all, then create a few pan & scan effects and copy/paste those attributes as I go...?
 
that looks cool... though I was wondering if FCP has anything built in or a feature that does this, or even a trick that someone knows to speed it up. Don't really have $100 to spare ATM....
 
The best solution I've found is to storyboard the photos in a bin, set a default transition and drag them into the canvas with an overwrite w/transition.

Well, if anyone knows a better way for future reference, post it up here... thanks guys.
