Autodesk to buy Alias

"Autodesk to acquire Alias for $182 million in cash"

id like to be around when that transaction happens
 
only 182? I mean that's not a small chunk of change, but for something as huge as Alias that seems cheap!
 
or killing them both and releasing a discreet branded 3d app! [evil laugh]BUAHAHAHAHAHH[/evil laugh]
 
182 definitely isnt alot. i wonder how well companies like alias, softimage, and newtek do.
 
oh no I hate autodesk. I want my Alias Maya. I think they will kill maya, to sell 3dsmax
 
Weird. Either Alias is really good at marketing or I've been missing something, because it sure seems like Maya is used a lot more these days than Max.

I am affraid that Maya will not be developed any more, or they will just translate it to UNIX system to coorporate with fire and other autodesk programs.
 
It's doesn't make sense that they will kill Maya. Not anytime soon anyway. Maya has a very good stronghold in the film and television market and Max has done very well in the games arena. By killing Maya they will not gain much support or confidense with Alias customers. They will leaves things they way they are for a while. They have to go through a whole bunch of rebranding before anything else.

Maya STARTED on Unix/Irix on SGI boxes years ago. They only recently made the move to pcs/macs. It's not going anywhere.. there's too large a dedicated userbase out there using it on large marquis projects.
 
I think alot of users will go screw it and hop over to XSI, that now can be configured to be setup like Maya, and their hotkey config...
