Auto sound levels?

Hi,
We've recently got a dvx100a. There are some less experienced people working with me. Sometimes they don't make sure that the camera is doing anything but recording. Sometimes the audio levels recorded are not usable.

Is there a way to let the audio level be set to automatic? It's seem to me not. I just can't believe that this is the case on such a high end camera.

Thanks,
Joe

thats what so good in this camera - it doesn't have it so people make less stupid mistakes :-)
what make this camera to be high end and what exactly experience you have if you want it automatic?

Mr. Exile
be nice.
Yeah, it's a great camera. I love it and all the choices it gives me. One choice I wish that I had was not to chose sound levels if i don't want to. Many cameras have this option. Is there no way to do that with the DVX100a.
Sometimes there is more going on in front of the lens to pay attention to little technical. Sometimes it's a blessing to be free of control and full of trust.

Thank you for questioning my experience. I need not explain to you. I have plenty enough to know that sometimes there are more important things in a shooting process then stopping everything to turn some knobs, or sometime it better to know you got the sound even though you didn't make a conscience decision as to the exact level it should be at.

Peace off,
Joe

next time before you buy the camera check the manual . its a grate camera for someone who came from pc world and miss the auto level :-)
i can guarantee you that with every dissent point setting with potentiometers and limiters in on position + some previous experience you will get exactly the same as you get with auto control - if you dont get what i sad you need some extra experience . now go and cry it doesn't have the mini pl input for the microphone .

woah george! haha!

If you dont have time to set levels, set the DVX levels to the mid point, and turn on the ALC on the camera - you wont clip the cam, and the levels should be ok unless you shooting something soft....

AGC (Auto Gain Control) isnt often considered a blessing... Unless you happy snapping, if you shooting dialogue your ambience is going to pump and that just sounds horrible : to be honest, the AGC is best left off the camera - set the levels to close to where you know the cam needs, hit the ALC and there you go.

In my experience, a director that wont take the time to turn a dial and fix a technical issue in the interest of not slowing down is the director that occasionally loses the great shot for not fixing that same issue.... it only takes a second to turn the level knob.
