Authoring for DVD-9

I'm using Vegas to edit but does anyone have a recommendation for DVD authoring software that will output to DLT for DVD-9? I have DVD Architect 2 at the moment but I have a big project (over 90 minutes) that needs to complete in the next 2 months and as it will be for commercial release DLT delivery will be essential. I know that Encore and DVD workshoip do DLT but if DVD-A 3 were on the horizon (assuming it includes DLT output) I could perhaps wait for that.

On the other hand, I have heard that it is possible to force DVD-A past the 4.7GB limit and use other software to produce DLT files. Is that true? Does anyone have experience with this or found another way around the problem?

So, guys what would you do?

Re: Authoring for DVD-9

There's no way to master DLT in DVDA2. If I were you, I'd wait to see what will be announced (or released) at NAB next month. This is where many companies will unveil new hardware and software.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll end up going with Encore or DVD Workshop (preferences anyone?). I had looked at DVD-Lab Pro and it looks really great at an incredible price but although it outputs to DVD-9 there is no support for DLT so is no good to me. Ah well.

Adobe Encore 1.51 has out put support to DLT. I have an old DLT2000XT and Encore see and writes to it just fine.

THanks. I've checked the link - seems to be what I'm after. Have you used it yourself with DVDA? Any problems?

I have just obtained it today. Very expensive! I will post results shortly. I found out about it in the Sony DVDA forums.

I am rendering a 7 gig DVDA project now.

They claim it can over the phone!

It is currently importing the Video_TS files!!! Done!

Opened the disk settings and it looks like it has a default layer break point. I accepted default.

Put in a DL DVD+R disk and will do a test burn first then write a DDP image to hard drive and DLT tape.

Burning the DVD+R DL disk now!!! Damn this appears to be pretty easy!

I haven't read the instructions either!

Well this sucks, OK!
After some reading...
I found that you can't burn DVD DL disks with this software (6.05) yet, but it does create the Dual layer DDP files to disk and DLT. Version 7.0 will have the feature to burn DVD+R DL media. Now hmmmm, how can I test my DVD9 project to make sure the layer breaks are working as expected. Hmmm...

I am going to test the 7.0 beta now! If I can download it....

Here is what I found on the Gear Forum in response to my problem!

Version 7.0 is allowing me to burn the DL DVD+R now.

I will do this to test to see if my layer break is in a good enough spot then I will DDP it to hard drive and tape.

Looks like everything is working purrrfect now....

I added CSS to the project as well. CSS an awesome addition!

Brave Man. Thanks for these posts - most helpful. Getting an oversize DVDA-2 project onto DVD-9 reliably will be an awesome breakthrough!
