Australian Film Schools

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to draw on any experience anyone here has with regards to Australian film schools. I know alot of great film schools are in America, like NYU, Full Sail, AFI, LA Film School, etc. But how about in Australia? Are there any notable film schools there, with equal prestige?

I did a 1 year TAFE course in bris vegas about 7-8yrs ago and it was brilliant. They kinda throw you in the deep end and you begin learning straight away. We shot 16mm twice (a short for which the whole class did and then a mock tvc) and a 35mm short (again the whole class, I was lucky enough to get to write and direct my years). They have from memory 2 x 16bls and a 35mm arri which you'll learn to load.

The course was cheap and I'd take it over a study intensive uni course anyday. The downside is because it's only a year you won't learn all about film history and all that jazz (which I didn't mind at all). The teacher that did the prac was Mick Collis and he was really good.

We edited our shorts at QPIX on an Avid system and you also get to go to telecine which is cool (digitizing the film).
