I guess I would call myself a romantic and I like some of the old soapy movies from way back when, but Australia(only from the trailer, and what I've read) looks so over-the-top fake that its hard to not giggle a little at the way it is romanticizing its history and leads.
People don't talk like that in real life. I don't get it? Just cause you make a period piece that doesn't mean you have to have it look and talk like an old movie. I think Baz has a major fetish with the style of old movies more than anything. Which is fine but the movie just looks unintentionally silly.
I liked Romeo + Juliet, and really hated Moulin Rouge, but I at least felt like the over abundance of style was matched with some original ideas. I don't get it.
