Audio Video Sync Issue

I played a guys homemade DVD on my Pioneer PRV-9000 and recorded it via firewire to my 'puter. I've done that a lot of times.

I play it back ... The guy talking goes out of lip sync within seconds. I can start the video anywhere I want, and it is perfect ...... for a few seconds. Because of this, I'm thinking the lip sync is not a real issue?

I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5 on an older PC; 1.6GHz, XP, lots-o-drive space.

Any questions/thoughts more than welcome.

Thanks, Larry

yes, its probably not an issue. depending on the codec you used to ingest the video and audio its likely that your cpu just cant decode it fast enough and the video is slowing down on playback. my guess is that the audio preceeds the video after a while, because the audio plays back at normal speed. if the audio is the same physical length as the video clip then more than likely its fine. you could try prerendering the video if youve got previews turned on and its a red line above it meaning it needs to be rendered.

Thanks Neil. I have a few things to check then. The audio and video are the same length and it is already rendered. I'm going to take a few minutes of it and export it to a movie and see what it's like.

Thanks for the input Neil. Today I exported 3 minutes of the video to a movie. I imported that .avi into Premiere and it did the same thing. It's weird because I can open any other project and the issue is not there. ??? So then I opened Encore and it played perfectly in there. I burned the 3 minute version to DVD and it is fine too. So ... I guess I will just finish the project and assume all is well in sync world. A puzzle still, but it works.

Edit to add: BTW, the video is going waaaaay ahead of the audio .. even more puzzling.

that is weird. its possible that your project is just corrupted. i would start a new project and either import the sequence into it, or just copy all your files from your old project to your new one. sometimes that can fix really weird issues if its just a matter of corrupt project data.
