Audio - UP and DOWN - WHY?

I have noticed the more I work on my project. The more I notice more strange audio problems. All of my audio files are AIFF. I have checked all my automation, everything is smooth with no jumps in volume. Then all of the sudden it will bump up or down. But then I'll playback again and its gone, everything sounds fine. My playback settings are set to HIGH. Please let me know if anyone else has had this happened. I'm using 10.3.5 with 1.8 Dual G5 with 1.5G of ram but I dont really think that has much to do with this problem. Let me know if you need more info. Thank you very much for your time.

Have you tried troubleshooting your actual speakers? I've never had FCP/FCE do this on its own, do you have a lot of automation on your audio tracks? Have you rendered all your audio? Make sure it's not the speakers.

I had a similar problem but realised that my i-tunes wasnt converting my audio to aifs but instead left them as mp3's which were sounding terrible in fcp. So I converted them in another audio app(soundjam) to aiffs which solved my problem.
