Audio Sync Feature Dumb Question

Hey guys,
just a dumb question, with the audio sync feature in FCP X, when it uses the on-board camera audio to sync with externally captured audio and creates a synchronised clip, does it trash the on-board camera audio or do you have to do that separately? I hope that makes sense.
 
Nothing is trashed when you sync clips, they are simply put into a new Compound Clip, which inside of you have access to the original clips and all of their audio channels.
 
Right. You've perhaps seen this already, but when you have the new compound clip in the info panel, you can then selected to mute the on-board audio.
