Hi,
I have the sony camcorder HXR-NX30U.
I have a hypercardioid Oktava MK012.

I could :
1) plug the mic into the xlr block on top of my camcorder (it records PCM audio)

2) Instead, i could plug the oktava into a H4N/tascam and sync the audio after.

I was wondering. If i use the audiorecorder/h4n, will i have a better sound ? more gain ? more clean sound ?
Or it will not make much a difference..

I guess when you have a canon dslr, you really need dual audio, but with this kind of camcorder, its different.

It is true that the better camcorders with XLR inputs have audio performance more equivalent to mass-market portable audio recorders.
Only YOU can do the experiment to see if your Oktava mic performs better into a portable audio recorder than into your camcorder.
It is probably a toss-up and you won't see a dramatic difference either way.

The Oktava is not noted for low-noise or high-output levels.

Even with a camcorder with decent audio performance, an external recorder (or mixer) may provide a bit "cleaner" mic preamps.
And even with equivalent performance, a separate recorder (or mixer) provides MUCH IMPROVED ergonomics for control, metering and monitoring.
