Audio recorded on only one channel?

What a great site! I came upon this site tonight for the first time and have read tons of posts and seen some great trailers! I have a question. I was using a wireless mic that I connected the receiver to my DVX-100. When I went to edit the footage in FCP, the audio only played on the left side rather than both right and left (center) I tried a lot of options on the camera to "center" the audio but I could not figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

PS, I was using a Sennheiser EW 122P-G2

Re: Audio recorded on only one channel?

I'll take a stab at this.

If you want an input to be duplicated on both channels, then try this:

1. Plug the Mic into Input 2
2. Set "CH 1 SELECT" to "Input 2"
3. Set "CH 2 SELECT" to "Input 2"

Both channels should be recording the Mic from the Input 2 XLR port.

Re: Audio recorded on only one channel?

Normally you just center the audio in post (editing), but mickeloaf's suggestion is a good way if you only have one audio source and need it to be "stereo" on tape. Normally though, since you only have a mono source in the first place recording it to both channels is not that neccesary, panning it to center in post works just as good.

A good tip though is to instead use your second audio channel as a backup channel against distortion. Simply plug your receiver to input 2 as mickeloaf suggested, but set the volume on the second channel a little lower than the first one. This way, if your audio on channel one is getting to high and distorts chances are the audio on channel two survived and you still are able to get a clean undistorted sound from it.

Re: Audio recorded on only one channel?

Thank you mickeloaf and Johan. Great ideas I never thought of before. I had to "center" my audio in post before but it was a little distorted. I will try your suggestions.
