Audio question

I have been shooting with my DVX using a lav and a shotgun mic...The shotgun is fairly easy to monitor, but the lav is extremely sensitive; if I put it a tad too high, the audio distorts, but if I go too low, it will barely come through my headphones. Any suggestions? This happens on both channels and inputs.
Are there any camera settings I should tweak?
Thanks!

Sounds like you have the internal gain at -60db instead of -50db... check the menu and see where that's set... also be sure to turn on the ALC setting... this is NOT autogain, but it does add a limiter to the internal audio which will help you to control blown levels.

This is the Sennheiser EW-100. My MIC GAIN 1 and MIC GAIN 2 are both set at -50db, and the MIC ALC is ON. Anything else I can check?

and not you dont use lavalier , you use receiver which receive the transmitter which receive signal from source called lavalier microphone.

so you have to open the manuals and see how to adjust the receiver output which probably sending now line level
go down to -30

Yeah:

- set levels on the transmitter ("sensetivity" in the menu)
- set the output level on the reciever ("af out" in the menu)
- make sure the line/mic switch is se accordingly on the camera (high levels= +12dB = line, preferred)
- set levels on the camera

Radio mic is not the same as cable...

Lavelier is not the same as radio mic...
