Audio question

I have a few soundbites that I really need to use, but there is quite a bit of background noise. My next big step is to get new mics and take some audio classes but I was wondering if there is a good universal audio filter that can cut most background noise. I can't really tell a difference in some of the random filters I have been trying.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

I am not an expert with audio either, but im pretty sure that you will have to use sound track pro. I know that some other forums have just sound track pro "areas" which may help you.

"Background noise" is not very descriptive. If that noise is a steady state noise like air-conditioning then you might be in luck. If it's traffic in the background or something that is changing then your sort of stuck. Try sending the sound to Sound Track Pro. STP has a noise reduction plugin that is pretty effective. There are high end noise reduction applications that cost multi thousand $ but they still won't do much for changing BG's. That's what a good editor and/or ADR is for.
