Audio Question

We loaned a 100a to student......

his last words were "we have our own audio gear". Now the camera will not pick up audio on the on board mic, or an external mic in any of the inputs. The only way to pick up something is to turn the level all the way up, but it still wont pick up anything unless you are really close to the mic (like touching it). Any ideas?

*i work in an equipment cage at a school, this camera has about 400 hours on it.

Check the swith at the front of the camera :
I think your input levels are set to "line" and not to "mic" levels

Trying random combinations of switch settings probably wont get you meaningful results.
when using an external mike, which Input are you using and what exactly is your Input 1 (or Input 2) switch set to?, mic/line?
what exactly are your Mic Power +48v switches set to?; On/Off ? (Input 1 and Input 2)
what exactly is your Ch1 Select switch set to?: Int L/ Input 1/ Input 2?
what exactly is your Ch 2 Select switch set to?; Int R/Input 2?
last but not least pot settings?; Ch1 and Ch2?

Regardless or whether you are using an external or internal mic, or both, you need to establish a complete path from your input to your audio circuit AND at the proper voltage levels.
