Audio question (FCP audio edit)

Hi, can anyone guide me somewhere or help me find out how I can make an audio clip sound like it's coming from infront or behind the audience. ...like isolating certain speakers.

example is there is a scene with two people talking, that has "regular" volume levels ...but then another person starts talking down the hall to them, but his audio wasn't recorded far away ....what can I do to make it seem that way?
also, the opposite ex: someone talking offscreen from "behind us"(the audience)

Distance is accomplished by reducing the volume in relation to closer sounds. Making sound come from behind the audience is difficult unless you're using surround sound, but you should try panning it to one side or the other and see how you feel about it.
