Audio Quality question, HV30 and Zoom H4n

Hi, I'm currently using a Panasonic GH2 on my short films. I use my old Canon HV30 connected to a Rode VideoMic for the audio, then sync it to the GH2 footage. If I invest in a Zoom H4N audio recorder will the audio quality with the Rode VideoMic be better than that recorded on to my Canon HV30 with Rode VideoMic?

Thanks, Ben

It should be. IIRC (and I may not), the HV20/30, when shot in high-def, delivers only 12 bit sound, though I think it delivers 16 bit sound when set on SD, which you may be doing. I think the Zoom records in 24 bit, so that should improve the audio, especially if you'll be doing any heavy processing of the audio, later. Now, take this with a grain of salt. I haven't actually checked any of this. I'm going from memory, only. You'd best do the checking for me ;-).

Not to mention youll have better metering and flexibility for other mics and monitoring what is actualy being recorded... its a no brainer.
