Audio quality differences between Rycote BBG Windshield and Zeppelin/Blimp

Hello,

Is there a discernible difference in audio quality if you're using the Rycote BBG windshield:

over say, the full Zeppelin you get in a Modular Windshield Kit?

Is the Rycote BBG less effective in higher wind situations because there is less "dead air" -- and the zeppelin, because it encases the entire microphone, has more "dead air" and thus is better able to cancel out the wind?

Lastly, has anybody used a Rycote BBG windshield with a Sennheiser MZS40 Elastic Suspension Mount?

Thank you,

I have and regularly use the windshield kit. It's been great except for really high winds where I wish I had a high wind cover. No experience with the BBG but I would think more vibration would occur because the mic is not fully enclosed?

I believe them to be differant applications. I have the BBG which I use on my Oktava MK-012 (For indoors), and I have the Rode zepplin with deadcat (if needed) that I use on my Sennheiser MKH-416 (for outdoors). So far this does exactly what I want. At some point the experts should chime in and you will get better and more qualified information.

The amount of wind protecting is in direct relationship with the amount of still air trapped round the microphone.

As the basket windshield traps more air than the BBG, it will be that bit better.

Regarding the Sennheiser mount - I have stopped using mine and have replaced them with Rycote INV-7 mountsas they are very much better.

But - the new Rycote Cyclone is better than the basket windshield and there is also a new SuperSoftie designed for the MKH 20/30/40 series.
