I have an artist that's asking me if I've heard of a program that can record and type out the words the artist would be singing. Guy says price is no problem ...

Do any of you know of a program ?

Voice recognition is pretty iffy, even with speaking under heavily controlled conditions. For 'high noise', or 'singing', I think there's not much that is available.

There's a couple of Google projects, such as 'captioning' video, or even 'voice mail to text email', projects, but I don't recall specifically 'song to text'.

There are some commercial packages, but I don't know of any that are 'so good even for the price'...

The best 'real time' voice to text is still a human stenographer... stenograph to ordinary text is pretty 'easy'... which is how 'live captioning' of broadcast events is done.

Thanks guys I'll look into them. BNH Photo said something about a company called fadeli or however it's spelled, but said it wasn't perfect either.

Dragon Naturally I've kind of read on and seems to be a great program for what you say, but not sure if it will work if he can't sing. Hmmm might have to get a copy for writing scripts.... :)

It's probably best to just do it the old fashioned way and record him flowing ideas, then pick out the best lines and type them up. It's not like songs have a lot of words. There is no way for an app to discern singing because it's so variable.

I would also look at Adobe. They have voice recognition built into their audio program (I think), it's in Premier Pro for sure. I don't know how it would fair on singing though. The other semi old school option is transcription software. It will let you play back at various speeds so you can type the words easier.
