Audio problems

When I playback my timeline in Premiere Pro 1.5, the audio often cuts out for a few seconds, then comes back in, then cuts out for a few seconds... you get the point.

The problem seems to get worst with added effects to the video clips (memory problem? I have a gig of DDR). Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,

i assume you're sure of the good quality of the acquired audio.

are you maybe keeping your camera attached via firewire during editing/playback? if so, the firewire output has priority , and the camera gets all the good signal (so you could monitor on a tv the video output in preview mode)

it doesnt happen to me in software mode (no camera attached, output just on computer monitor). i also think there's a setting in premiere which decides how to handle to firewire output. i think i recall there's some automatic setting, which means it outputs to firewire just when there's a camera.

that could be the reason. otherwise you may want to check for running programs and close them all. next step is to re-install premiere.

Actually, in this case I'm outputting through firewire into my Canopus box, then out to a mixer out to speakers. The problem only occurs at playback from the timeline. Original audio, final output (AVI or MPEG) is fine. It's a bit of a pain because I have VHS in my chain of outputs and often tape off the timeline to give clients proofs or timecode burns.

The computer may not have enough resources to process all the audio/video. You probably have the output on best quality.

Click the little arrow at the top right corner of the program monitor. It opens a menu. About half way down the menu, you can select highest quality, draft quality, or automatic quality. If you select highest quality, the video is sometimes jerky because the computer doesn't have time to process all the effects. If you select auto quality, then the video sometimes blurs when there's lots of effects.

If you render the timeline, then the video would display smoothly. But then Premiere slows down when you go back to editing.
