Hello Audio People,

I have an issue with some static in my audio - is there a good Plug-in for this?

Also, is there an excellent general Plug-in you would suggest for sweetening up audio (dialogue).

There are lots of plugins but what you need is experience.
Well that sounded snide!

But it is also the truth. No plugin will do any of the above with out the editor understanding how it works AND what they actually want to achieve. "Sweetening up" could be adding bass to a thin voice or removing sibilance from a smacky voice or taking bass out of a muddy voice. It could involve compression or even expansion. There is no "make it good" plugin that you flip on and it all sounds better. Most of it is editing, but it all starts with knowing the goals and knowing the tools.

I'm going to guess that what you are calling "static" is noise and yes there are excelent Noise Reduction Plugins.
First though you would need to tell people what DAW your using because few audio plugins cross over much. And you should also mention what OS your using since many plugins available on the Mac are not on Windows and visa-versa.
 
Please post online somewhere (not here) an example of the noise you are talking about. If it is really "static" then it is random, sharp pulses. Removing them completely lies somewhere between exceeding difficult (and expensive) and impossible.

That type of noise is typically eliminated at the source vs. trying to remove it after the fact.

You may find it vital to trace the source of the static. Either you've got a gain stage really screwed up, or you've got some connection issues. Or if you're running wireless, the source grow exponentially.

Audacity has a noise reduction plugin that allows you to sample your noise, and then mix it in, out of phase, to help lower the floor, but it may do some wacky phasey things to your soundtrack.
