Audio Not Appearing, Video/Audio Sync Problem

I have an mpg file that I import into CS3. When I drop it on the timeline, there's no audio! If I open the mpg file in windows media player, vlc player, etc., it plays WITH AUDIO. So I went back to my trusty PremPro 1.5, import the video, move to the preview window, and there IS audio. However, when I move it to the timeline the audio and video go out of snyc even though I didn't unlink the two. And I just can't seem to get the audio to sync after PremPro 1.5 unsyncs it.

So, I go into my el cheapo Roxio MyDVD and no problems: audio and video are in sync, I can edit (in the el cheapo way), and burn to dvd. What's the deal? A pro product can't see the audio (CS3) or can't sync the two (1.5). Has anyone had this problem? Am I missing some codecs or something?

Premiere is not an mpeg editor.

You could try and export the mpeg as an avi and see if that works for you or convert it in some other application.

Conform the files using virturaldubmob, it will index the mpeg, then use a resize filter to scale it to DV and use panasonic DV Codec to render, it works like a charm

I just downloaded virtualdubmod and will give it a try. Thanks a lot. Also, I found a post on adobe that says to copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the encore root directory to the premiere root directory to fix the problem. Apparently this file is the AC3 codec that is used in the mpg file. It does not automatically install in premiere. At least that's what I've read. And others have been successful. So I'll give it a try first and post here what happens.

I tried copying the ad2ac3dec.dll file to the PremPro root directory and it works perfectly! This is the solution. No dubbing or re-encoding necessary. Just get the ac3 decoder into the directory and Premiere Pro CS3 has no more problems.
